A bright Burnley College student has won a coveted place at the University of Cambridge.

Holly Welsby’s determination to pursue her dreams has led to her acceptance into Churchill College, Cambridge, to join a prestigious alumni of more than 30 Nobel Prize winners.

Holly, from Church, will read psychological and behavioural studies.

She said: “I am so excited to have been selected to join Churchill College. Now I’m focusing on my A Levels and taking part in the Honours Programme to ensure I achieve the grades I need.”

Holly’s application was further bolstered by her activities as a member of the Burnley College Honours Programme, aimed at enabling students to achieve through workshops and debating competitions to develop confidence.

Holly’s work as a volunteer with Community Solutions North West also gave her real-world insight into dementia research.
