Mounted police drafted in as inquiries into Burnley shooting and weapons attack scale up

Officers from the Lancashire Mounted Police division arrived in the town today as inquiries continue into what detectives have described as a 'shocking' attack.
Police were called at shortly before 12-30am yesterday to reports of disorder in Wilton Street where a number of individuals were reportedly attacking a man with weapons.

Hide AdShortly afterwards the ambulance service were called to a nearby address to a report of a man with a laceration to the head.
The man (30) was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.
At just after 1-15am, police were called to a report that a man was being treated at hospital for what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the leg.
The man (38) remains at hospital but his injury is not believed to be life threatening.

Hide AdPolice are also looking into a report of a burnt out silver BMW estate car on Melville Street which was reported at 4.30am.
Officers believe all the incidents could be linked and they are appealing for information.
Detectives have reassured the public that while the frightening incidents may cause some concern to people living in the area they believe the incidents are targeted and there is no threat to the wider public.
Det Supt Nick Connaughton, of East CID, said has also appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Wilton Street, Haydock Street or Melville Street areas to come forward.
