Clarets defender Ward helps Republic of Ireland to draw with World Cup winners
Ward, a summer signing from Wolves, collected his 28th cap for his country in the Veltins-Arena, and helped Martin O’Neill’s men frustrate Joachim Low’s side for 70 minutes, until Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos broke their resistance.
However, in the fourth minute of injury time, John O’Shea poked in an equaliser on his 100th appearance for Ireland.
Ward, who made his first Clarets start in the 2-2 draw at Leicester City, in the unusual position of central midfield, will now report back to Gawthorpe ahead of Saturday’s home game with West Ham.
